As a part of CBC’s mandate from Commonwealth Heads of Government, we are required to keep Commonwealth Governments up‐to‐date on Private Sector views on policies and issues relating to business in the Commonwealth. I have the pleasure in presenting the Commonwealth Business Council’s key policy papers
which capture the recommendations to Heads of Government from CBC Members and businesses from a wide range of Commonwealth countries. 

CBC considers the following areas of key importance for the immediate future and will continue the dialogue for the implementation of these recommendations in the coming years. These are:

• Green Economic Development. This paper provides private sector proposals to government that will foster green economic growth and sustainable development.
• Renewable Energy. This report addresses the energy challenge that the world is facing now. Energy is not only a concern for developing countries, but also an increasingly pressing challenge for all countries, who must balance the necessity of current energy supply with future demands and limitations along the huge possibilities provided by new and renewable energy technology.
• Adapting to Climate Change: Approaches for Sustainable Development. This paper provides key recommendations to governments and business to address climate change. Climate change is no longer a distant phenomenon.
• Strengthening the Investment Climate. The paper recommends attention to urgent priorities required to stimulate further investment
• The Commonwealth and the WTO: Concluding the Doha Deal. The urgency to conclude the Doha Development Round is readily apparent in the current economic crisis as it aims to lift developing countries out of poverty by striking an accord that will cut agriculture subsidies and tariffs on industrial goods.
• Cities of the Future: Drivers of Sustainable Growth. This paper address the changes cities are facing due to accelerated urbanisation. The role of business is vital in developing a strategy and implementing action to address this issue.
